Yes indeed Brian, the ferries are obviously struggling in the awful conditions. They are still trying to operate as I write, docking with the help of tugs and so on, but its extremely difficult, there is a tailback. Bleak.

Port of Dover website reporting that Operation Stack is being implemented. In addition to the weather delays, some Eurotunnel staff are taking industrial action.

We should be praising the port and ferries for how well they have been coping in these terrible winds. Although ferries are running late it was late section of French Eurotunnel who decided to go on strike when they turned up for work. Let's blame them shall we.

Better still: I think it's due to those wind turbines. I bet someone has turned them all on at once!

then it is all down to dave with his obsession with environmental things that cost us all a fortune and make foreign manufacturers happy.

We could cope with the Tunnels traffic (at the expense of inconvience to the locals) but could the Tunnel do that same for us?

not sure what point you are trying to make helen, i have not seen anything critical of our port workers on this forum.
on the contrary every time there are problems because of operation stack, bad weather or strikes at eurotunnel the forum is full of praise for how the port raises its game.

I have edited the post now as do not wish to start discussion over this. I followed this forum a while before I joined it an I have to say I do not agree with you Howard.
I wonder if it does get privatised though how much a private company would really care about traffic affecting the town. The workers are mostly local and I still see a pride there in their working environment. I really hope a privitisation does not change this. Mind you there is always the peoples port.....and so the dissagrements begin
