    I don't suppose a tunnel will ever become a reality as no government is likely to be bold or imaginative enough nor prepared to commit the amount of money necessary. Perhaps they could access EU funding to support it......oh!
    However, if you look at pictures of Boston (USA) before and after the 'Big Dig' where they took traffic underground and created green, public accessible spaces where the roads were, the transformation has been impressive. Imagine Townwall and Snargate reduced to single carriageway and green, walkways in the space where the other carriageway was. It would do much to reconnect the town with the seafront, would be a draw for visitors and benefit to residents and shoppers alike.
    Sadly, since they can't afford to repair potholes on our roads from 5 winters ago, I can't see this project being a runner.
