Vic anybody that lives in the centre of a town knows that there is going to be noise. If you don't like noise you don't move there, I really can't feel much sympathy for the residents, they chose to live close to the Market Square nobody forced them.

roger has expounded the views of experts and heard actual experiences of where the screens have aleady been.
i was at the same meeting when these people spoke.
the evidence is incontrovertible that the screens reduce crime and anti social behaviour.
victor, you have kept quiet on the issue(not like you), why bring the matter up when the issue is settled?
i was in market square today and saw the empty estate agents, three cooks and a boarded up shop or two going from market square to the eight bells.
it will be nice to see them brought into use, a few extra tables outside the existing cafes there and king street and bench street benefiting from more people coming into that part of town.

I also said lads we will have to wait and see,
Dave as for the residents(1) they like us did not know that down the line in afew years that they were going to have a big screen outside there front door,
Also most of the residents did not have a choice it was there or nowhere again I put it to you all, would you like out side your own front door and if you had young childern what would you do at their bed time.

I like Vic feel very sorry for those residents .They bought their homes in good faith .Over the years their peace has been destroyed first the longer licensing hours ,then the fact smokers have to go outside of licenced premisis.
There rights have been taken away .Sadly those who made that decision do not live in that area .One councillor who voted against does and spoke well in defence of Dolphin House residents
I have just swithched my TV off I still have that choice
The screens placed in other parts of the country are .located within larger squares or open parks .
Donot patronise us objectors by saying these people knew what Market Square was like when they purchased their homes..I wonder if you would object if the screen suddenly appeared in front of your home
How many people object to play areas opposite their homes ??You would be surprised how much opposition is made ..

Sue, I will promise not to patronise you if you promise not to patronise, or talk down to those who are in favour of the screen.

I can remember the Market Square when the Prince Regent is where the entrance to the Discovery Centre is now, the Elephant & Hind when it was frequented by the Army lads, The Dover Tavern when that had a dubious reputation and The Lord Nelson when that was patronised by the ferry workers. Just round the corner was Images at that time Dovers only night club
All of the pubs kicked out at the same time and a lot of weekend nights fights were the norm, the flats were there then.
Incidentally Sue and Vic I used to live within a 30 second walk of the MarketSquare so please do not preach to me about noise.

worry ye not susan.
the carnival, bleriot weekend, dock rock and the reggatta are to come.
you can try to stop those, they will generate noise and litter and, god forbid, pleasure to the majority.

Doesn't matter where you live or where you go, you will always have noise, one way or another, traffic, music, fighting, tonight we have had a party going on at our local community centre, I think that most of Priory could hear it, but I say enjoy noise while you can, providing it stops at a reasonable hour, your a long time dead, it will be to late then wishing you could hear noise.

When I made my decision to vote for the Big-Screen, it was after we had visited the two flats in Dolphin House, it was also after we had discussed it at length in the Council, Chamber.
I did take into account the residents living in DH; there will be no screen-flicker, the volume of the screen will be 1 decibel, yes, just 1 decibel above the ambient noise in the market square; more noise will probably come from the people than the screen and the events will be managed well by the DDC officers and others involved in making the decisions.
I have confidence in the Events committee to ensure, along with the Police and Fire Brigade, that it will be run properly - no events will be on late at night and 11pm is switrh-off time, quite a bit before chuck-out time.
I know I have turned (almost) full circle since I first heard about it, but only because I have gone and found out as manty facts as I could about it.
I'm sorry if you felt I let you down Sue, as we were at one on this some time ago, but because I remained open-minded, I made my final decision last Thursday.
You are a great Lady and like me and many others, very passionate about Dover; you are one of, if not the most hard-working Councillors at DDC and that is recognised by many, many people - ordinary people, those off the Council.
Keep it up Sue, we all want the same thing, just have different views on how to achieve it.

Thank you for that Roger you have brought a tear to my eye .Im so passionate about every thing I do and Im sorry that in the end you did not agree with me ,however that is your right .I just cannot see what prosperity it will bring .
I will campaign for toilets to be kept open ,good bu s services ,clean streets but the big screen will always be a No for me .
I care pasionately for the Council tenants and my strong will doeas not sit comfortably with some .
Its done and dusted now .
I never agreed to The White Cliffs Experience and it always ran at a loss.
The Musuem yes If only I could get more funding .
On Monday we will be debating whether to award a grant to the local Gym club .I shall speak in favour thats where m,oney shpuld go into local sports clubs and facilities .

Dave 1. Sir I do know all about that time with the turning out of the pubs I was in the army then and also the fights anyway that was a very long time ago,but would you like to see them back?
Roger. So you are now saying as council tax payers we are now going to pay for our very few police on the streets and also fireman to stand around looking at the big box, not looking after the rest of the town, and not puting out fires.
I remain yours faithfully VIC mATCHAM

vic,as regarding the police/fire brigade i think you will only find them there on days of big events, other wise its just a routine patrol by the police.

sheila summed it up, noise is everywhere.
i only live 3 doors from the party she described, irritating, but not much more than that.
i knew that a community centre was there when i moved in, so i expected the odd party getting out of hand a bit, albeit rarely.
the screen will operate from 7 am to 11 pm maximum.
traffic flows 24 hours per day.
do we stop cars and trucks going about their lawful business, beacuse they are not silent?

I have to agree with Sue on the White Cliffs Experience, what a waste of money and what an incredibly ugly building.

Vic
Another typical posting from your goodself..I have no more to say about this...or the Status Quo or the DDC or the DTC..for pitys sake if you have anything to say that say it!.
The reason(s) you never get elected is because you are out of step with todays generation. We think the screen will be a good thing for Dover..it doesn't necessarily follow that we all agree with the decision( I do) but we have to look at the bigger picture(excuse pun) but its the way forward.
Yes it's nice to talk about Hellfire Corner and I have the greatest of admiration and respect for those that lived through those days but those days are long gone. What we have to think about is the future and whats best for Dover and its environs.Roger is always looking to promote Dover and it's historic sites, shops and countryside. So please do not knock him.
Maybe as Keith and I have said before, many times, that perhaps you may wish to spend your winter years relaxing with your wife rather than competing in the murky world of local politics which it would appear ,to me, that you are totally out of touch with.
