I must admit I thought the recognised date for the Battle of Britain was 15th September...maybe I'm wrong?

This thread is typical of events in the area, we hear about them afterwards not before.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Perhaps it may be worth having an "Events" tab on the Menu which people can post dates of up coming events?
Or..for those tech savvy amongst us a "Google Calendar" that one and all can put events onto..
I was with a bunch of 70 and 80 year old chaps yesterday removing the Sails from the White Mill in Sandwich..could have done with a few more (younger) hands !..

To be fayre, the Battle of Britain Memorial Day event at Capel-le-Ferne was mentioned twice in the River Fayre thread.

This event was held in July last year. The event was held the same date last year as The Royal Marines Concert on Walmer Green which I attended. The Royal Marines were at Walmer Green yesterday .
A lot of people especially from Capel were aware of the event.

Saw the hurricane and spitfire yesterday when they flew over,
Guess what flew over our house today - late morning- a very big Junkers Bomber, in pristine condition, silver-grey, it had a lot of engines and props. Very striking. Where was it going I wonder?

Kieth, Back to ostend airport were it lives its owned by a friend of mine and three years ago we flew around biggen hill when he brought it over for the air show, and it is the same junkers that Mr Hitler landed in Paris during the second world war
christen brought it for a small amount and he and his friends spent 6 years doing it up now gives pleasure flights along the Belgium coast.

Great afternoon in Deal. according to Director of Music RM 10,000 people were at the event. Spitfire fly pasts - expect they were part of Battle of Britain event & doubled up

On The Dover War Memorial Project website we publish a Remembrance calendar for events in and by Dover, in the Latest News section. We were at Capel - a moving event and thank goodness the weather was kind.
Here are some pics, from Simon:
The Spitfire and Hurricane
Guests at The Wall of names of The Few
William Walker, now 98, one of The Few and author of "Our Wall" poem at the memorial, talking to air cadets
Next year's event is July 15.

Yes thanks too Alan, I saw the Junkers fly directly overhead at Whitstable beach after coming in from Essex, several other fighter planes some with US markings came across too.

Interesting to hear about the Junkers Kath
If Alan is right and its was the one he refers to then it must have been a JU52, a three engined transport aircraft rather than a bomber.
here is a picture of one:

Barry - it looked very large, with more engines than the one pictured....
Ray - what did you think it was ?
