First of all Kieth I am not the voice of Tory Dover - I speak only for myself.
I also do not share your negativity and envy of what others have. I prefer to be positive and work to improve my lot and keep it free from the greedy grasp of government.
1% of people is a lot of people Keith. Most of whom will be looking after the land for future generations, preserving the countryside.
Take Lake Windermere. The west side of the lake is largely unspoilt while the east is overly and increasingly commercialised and built up. It would not be hard to guess which side has been in the hands of one family for generations and who care for it - the west. Not that they ignore the needs of today, they get a balance and a lot of tourists love it on that side with Beatrix Potter's cottage, we did segways there.
Farms, large grouse moors etc will make up a lot of that 70% you refer to. I also think you will find that those statistics include English Heritage and National Trust properties and MOD land - huge tracts of land being protected.
If you want to buy some land then there is nothing stopping you. You just have to raise the cash and/or borrow the money to do so.
