27 September 2009

Indian Dancer performing at the RAMADA CHARITY Dinner for local underprivileged kids.

Yes it was a fantastic evening on friday. An absolutely packed marquee raised £7818.25 for the Beyond the Moon charity. Their motto is.." Together we can offer sick children hope, strength and joy!" Many see that ideal as very worthwhile indeed and with everyone digging deep this fantastic sum was raised. The figure quoted is from Michelle Sheppard (Sheli) and you can see more on this in the Members Club thread.

The dance troupe above is called The Nikita Dance Company and as ever they put on a fab pulsating display of exotic dancing.

On the left we have Jean and Roger Walkden. Roger is a well known local councillor and very active in tourism. He works in many instances singelehandedly to try and put Dover on the tourist map with some spectacular initiatives. The picture on the right shows the Deputy Chairman of Dover District Council Steve Manion and wife Marianne. Steve was officiating in fine style on behalf of the local council.

This shot gives some indea of what the evening was like. This is one half of the assembled gathering. In the centre is the dancefloor and performing stage. The side from where the picture was taken has another half as it were. Here we have the male member of "The Swinging 60's" band entertaining all. This chap, and his name escapes me for the moment, ah I have it Andy, put on a very good show. He does the Hank Marvin act very well indeed. Hank Marvin, for the wee young things amongst us, was/is a member of The Shadows. His rendition of 'wonderful land' got us all going! Lots of twanging on the instrument!

Councillor David Hannent and wife 'Lady' Linda like nothing better than a hot swirl and a quick throb around the dancefloor. Give them an oul tune and they're off! David loves showing off his fandango, and I myself have seen it many a time and its a sight not to be missed.

This time under the twinkling stars it was quite special.

They let PaulB out from behind the computer screen now and again and here he is on the left mustering up an enthusiastic smile for the camera. In the centre is his medical student daughter BrionyB who put away her stethoscope and her thermometer for the evening. On the right is the ever smiling former Mayor of Dover, current Deputy Mayor of Dover, Cllr Jan Tranter enjoying the occasion. All very glamourous !

On the left we have the Shirley family who were guests of Cllr Hannent. From L to R we have Veronica, then Emma and on the right hand side Alan. The picture on the right is of Leah the female half of "The Swinging 60's" band. She does a delicious Sandie Shaw and certainly looked the part in her sixties gear, even complete with fab white boots. These boots are made for...

By this time of the evening I was beginning to get pixelated and you can see the result here. Too much grain I suspect. But through the aforementioned grain...you can just see on the left Colette Boland our Doverforum PR goodwill person, who did most of the pictures here on this page. In the centre is the jovial Trevor Bond, Sales Manager Ramada, and on the right is multi-efficient Sheli or Michelle Sheppard who is the Events Manager. Sheli did 'Compere' for the evening. Those job titles are roughly correct anyway.
