The Mayor's Yuletide Ball...

The Mayor's Ball was a big success as ever. Despite a stiff recession, where you might expect it to be a tad undersubscribed..well no not at all, not a bit of it, every ticket was sold and every table was full, raising wads of cash for the Mayor's Goodwill Fund. We had an 'unofficial' Doverforum table where forumites who are going to this high glam event usually congregate. It was a high old time..dining dancing and perhaps there may even have been a little drinking too, the occasional seasonal egg nog doesnt hurt does it!? and we all floated home by taxi in carefree mode swearing that we will jolly well do the same thing again next year.

As usual Colette Boland and myself recorded the event with our snip snapping cameras. But before we started picturing in earnest I took this shot on the left of Doverforum's own ColetteB herself, looking good and in fine style. She was mesmerising in her little shimmering black number. Yes she certainly knows how to shimmer. The picture on the right shows Mayor Sue Jones who was in great spirits all night and had a fine time with her attendees. The jolliest of them all was Cameron Macsween, President of the Dover Chamber of Commerce. Cameron was almost our top model on the night as he was resplendent in full kilt and he enjoys the cameras too....and sure why not!

Top guns from Dover Town Council on display here, with more Mayoral titles than you can shake a stick at...from left Jan Tranter current Deputy Mayor and former Mayor, then Cameron Macsween as mentioned earlier of The Chamber, then Ronnie Philpott Mayoress, then the Mayor herself Sue Jones...who enjoyed the hugely successful night.

Yes its that man again..the larger than life Cameron Macsween who makes every party go with a swing..hugging the living daylights here in this picture out of party girl Colette Boland. Lots of fun on show here.

And then the Carol Singing...and that David Hannent chap can belt them out with the best of them. Here he is at full tilt lifting the rafters. I still have "Hark the Herald Angels" reverberating through my eardrums! My chances of a full recovery are slight!

Of course the girls not to be outdone, matched the male performance with a kind of 'full breasted gusto' as you can see here, they can sing a few choruses of "In the Bleak Mid-Winter" for me anytime! Oooh I say...steady now! The girls are of course Alison Williams and Una Mills.

Its a hard life being surrounded by such glamorous women and they are such a joy especially while singing...such fine voices coming from such lovely tonsils. They really use their diaphragms well ! Old King Wenceslas will never be the same again! Left to right..Jane Carruthers, Dover's newest businesswoman, and the delightful Gill Gough.

Jane Carruthers again, on the left, this time with the lovely Elaine McCole Slater...these girls are the teamsters behind the New Thatched Barn at Gt Farthingloe Farm experience. Great place to hold your event as its a lovely place, its also wonderful to see a new Dover based enterprise iniative.

Here we have Elizabeth, alas no surname to hand, then Georgette Rapley, then a brace of former Mayor's...good guy Bob Markham and his partner and also former Mayor Lynn Young. All having a good time with lots of fun and frollicks.

Legend in his own time and tip top forumite supreme is Roger Walkden. Roger is the newly appointed Business Support Manager, a hugely popular choice for the role, and he is already making positive waves. It should be a good 2010 with Roger in charge. In fact the whole new look Chamber of Commerce have an encouraging air about them. On the left hand side in the picture is Roger's supportive and popular wife Jean, on the right we have the owner of Dover's Curiosity Shop...Jenny Morgan.

Last up is a candlelit shot of the two main players on the night... Ronnie Philpott Mayoress and Sue Jones Mayor. This picture sums up the atmosphere aplenty. Yes a great night and all being well we will be back to do the same thing again next year. PaulB.
End
All pictures Colette Boland and Paul Boland.
