Serious Motorcycle Accident Dover Seafront Tuesday 29:
In the midst of the glorious summer weather and all the beach time and football frivolity, we are brought back to earth by the crunching sound of a very nasty accident along Dover Seafront, involving a car and a motorcycle. The rider on the Gilera motorcycle came off worse, as would normally be the case in such situations. He was taken to William Harvey hospital by land ambulance. We believe the air ambulance was called but wasnt used in the end. A young man was seriously injured but we understand that the injuries are not life threatening. We are all hopeful for a full recovery.
The seafront roads (Marine Parade and Wellesley Road) were closed at 12.20 and reopened at 2.45 in the afternoon.
We must remind everybody to THINK BIKE. If you witnessed the accident please call Kent Police on 01622 690690.

High Summer, Dover.

Hot Diggedy Dog its DoubleD Delight time in Downtown Dover:
Okay the double D bit might be an exageration, one might even say the headline is a bit of an exageration all round, but who can resist such frivolities. The excuse is that one's brains are fried in all this 30degree heat. Yes Dover is near tropical at the moment, with soaring searing temperatures, and this glamourous couple pictured yesterday brought a touch of Mediterranean style allure to the beach. Lots more visitors like this are just the ticket to a better and more affluent future.
Even though Dover sizzled there was plenty of room on the beach. Perhaps all the 'roadworks' are putting people off but the good news is that the whole area is starting to take shape and although not finished by any means yet, is beginning to look more than a bit seductive. Once finished and fully landscaped it will be fabtastic! Time then perhaps to push for more visitors.

Football - Big Screen Market Square.
England Out!
Crushed by Germany.
Sunday 27, Market Sq:
Yes the World Cup is over for England. Germany dazzled them in a fine display of goal scoring prowess winning comfortably 4-1.
But what a disastrous World Cup it has been for a poor England team, a complete managerial rethink is needed as the performances have been dire, and one lived in hope more than expectation that they might win today against the young German side.
But it wasnt to be.
One comedic wag said on the TV friday night...that he expected England to go all the way.....to the airport!!
Well I guess he was right in the end. They are packing to go home as we write.
In Market Square as you can see from the pictures above left, it all played out in grim style. Early on the cries of ENGERLUND rang out across Dover, but the upbeat enthusiasm was soon silenced. Possibly 400 people watched in the Square. One had to pass through manned security barriers to get into said Square, all bags were searched etc, but the atmosphere was good as the fans cheered and sweltered in equal measure in the blazing heat. No alcohol was allowed, so if you needed to drown your sorrows you had to wait until later to do it in the local pubs, which Im sure many are doing at this moment (Sat 5.10pm).
As oul Bill Shankley once said " Football isnt a matter of life and death, its more important than that ". Quite right.
And we're dead and buried!

Community Safety Day:
Saturday 26, Pencester.
The annual safety event took place in Pencester Gardens today and was very well attended right from the off. Pencester was its usual sunbaked self (!) as the interesting demonstrations took place on home and community safety, highlighting the roles of the Police, The Fire Service, the RNLI, among others. As Doverforum strolled around a good crowd was building to see the demo on how to go about quenching the flames of a chip pan fire. When the fire chief doing the demonstration asked how many people used chip pans these days...there was a deathly silence, nobody, no doubt most punters have gone the way of the oven ready chip, courtesy of McCain. And probably a wise move too. However the demo went ahead with spectacular flame and the onlookers were entertained.
The kids sections were very popular with wall climbing, skiing via the bouncing castle type ski slope, and much more. Kids were loving it. They sat too in the Police fast patrol vessel, while the Officers in charge blasted their sirens to much ear splitting jollity...so yes a great family day out and all for free with the added bonus of making your life that bit safer.
Although speaking of safety we understand a woman was knocked down on Pencester Road as she made her way to the event. Fortunately she was well attended to by all the emergency people in the park. We hope she is recovering well.
The picture shows a fireman rising to dizzy heights above Pencester in his hugely extended ladder...bet the view was good from up there! PB
