Dover:

Mobile Viewing Platform.

Eeyup! what do we have here.. I hear you ask. Well its a fantastic impromptu mobile display of passing Jaguars all taking up recent short term residence at The Premier Inn. Suddenly our one operational seafront hotel was ablaze, not literally of course, with our historic motoring past. Wall to wall Jaguars were everywhere, all in fantastic candy colours ..truly a photographers dream.

And arent they fantastic, all from those heady days of yore when men were men and cars were cars! It seems they were all on the way to an Entente Cordiale Rally at Besancon in France, and sure why not, its glorious summer after all, time for fun and frolics and fantastic motoring.

Okay, the sharp eyed will have noticed that the fantastic little jalopy on the left above is not a Jaguar at all but an Austin Swallow. What it was doing amongst all the Jaguars is anybody's guess, but golly gumdrops what a fab little car, it would be welcome anywhere. Im sure it belongs to Noddy but I cant be certain. Its actually an Austin Swallow. Yours truly has never clapped his baby blues on one of these before.

Makes a chap want to burst into song...
"You gotta get under
get out and get under
and rev up the automobile!!"
There you are , dont say we dont bring you culture on Doverforum!

Unfortunately no details on the cars were available. Many of them are not named so one needs to be an aficionado to know whats what and yours truly doesnt know his S Type from his E Type nor his aspidistra from his elbow. So if there are any experts out there who can name the individual cars let us know. Suffice to say that they were all gorgeous and such a pleasant shock to see all of a sudden and all at once.

But hopefully everyone will enjoy seeing the pictures for a brief time. The cars too lingered here in Dover for just a brief spell and were soon gone. The occasion all burst into exciting throbbing life as saturday morning broke, and the owners and drivers began to emerge from the hotel and get it together. It was then a case of "Gentlemen start your engines!"...and what a sound those engines make! Then they were gone, like those ships passing in the night, and the seafront world returned to normal.

The aerial picture on the immediate left is a bit different in that it was taken the evening before as the cars began to arrive and park up. We began to guess there were quite a few coming, maybe up to seventy cars in the end, by the way they tucked them all in together in the carpark so camera was grabbed. This was by no means the final number, many more were to come.

In the meatime, can someone put a deposit for me on the one below so that I can use it as the Doverforum staff car! Thankyou.
Paul Boland.
