Failed England Manager laughs all the way to Bank!

When are we going to stop rewarding failure. McLaren who failed abysmally in the job is getting a £2.5 million pound payout to soften the blow of being sacked. Truly dreadful. The scale of his failure cannot be overstated. England clearly are one of the top football nations in Europe, with perhaps the top league system...and this guy failed to even qualify us to START in it (the Euro 2008 championship). Not only did we not win it, or will not win it, we failed even to qualify to take part in it. Abysmal. This super event will kick off next year, it is very much like the World Cup, and all we can all do is gape on gormlessly from the exclusion zone, looking at all our footballing friends in Europe enjoying themselves at this fantastic event.

Even the Football Association here will lose a conservative £20 million pounds in revenue by this failure to go through.

This current malaise of rewarding spectacular failure has got to stop. Business executives have enjoyed this dodgy practice for far too long as well. Far more acceptable for them to fall on their sword in many cases.

That said, if you were offered £2.5million would you refuse it on a matter of principle and resign??? i DONT think so.

Its the system thats wrong

FA needs a root and branch review(FA's words)but not just fotball but also
how the FA operates and if this board should continue.

While most people would have wanted Mr McLaren to get nothing, under employment law could he be just sacked with no payout at all? I doubt it. I expect if he was told your sacked, now go away and play football some where else the F.A. would be up on some big court case and the price of the case and the pay out would have been much, much more.

Any Football Manager even in the lower leagues, always have a clause that gives them a payout for terminating their contract. Think about it if you fail to achieve something for your employer you may get disciplined but would you necessarily get the sack and if you did they would have to be fairly certain they were not going down the road of unfair dismissal. So they may well say good bye with an agreed payout instead.

I do think the payout stinks as it does for all top people who get big fat payouts. However I suspect the F.A. had no choice and that lot at the F.A. should take a long hard look at them selves as they were the ones that cocked it up in the first place. They are the one who should resign and walk away with nothing, they got it wrong.

On the contract, it is just that a contract which mr mc whinney and his FA team would have signed up to!!
