I have said it many times. Remember every penny spent by the public sector is ultimately raised by the private sector. Some of it does aid economic growth and is important, road building and education to name but two. Some spending is necessary that is not necessarily economically essential, pensions of course, a safety net for people who fall on hard times for instance. But government is a wasteful spender and does far too much best left alone and that is nothing but a growth destroying, wealth destroying, job destroying weight that business and all who work in it have to carry.
Logic and common sense alone is enough to show this. Both of which are alien concepts to the 'left'.
The fact of this has been illustrated by the Centre for Policy Studies correlating the levels of public spending relative to GDP to unemployment. The correlation is clear and demonstrates my point. More recently the reductions in public spending, despite the recession, have helped slow the rise in unemployment. I have said it before, faster, sharper and deeper cuts to public spending are the best way to get economic growth and cut unemployment. George Osborn has been far too timid.

Chop the lords drastically cut parliament MPs numbers.
Chop the snivel services to the minimum, then you can get the public on board with austerity NOT the other way around.
Cutting youth clubs and sacking road sweepers is not the way to go.
Westminster is full of parasites feeding of the public purse. - It is the private sector, with some stark justification, that contends that there is indeed a 'money-tree', and a 'money-tree' policy.
It is not the face of some fat-cat that adorns the British 'folding' stuff, it is the head of state.
The shark invested waters of the private sector lie somewhere between the benthic-gloom of State support and the storm-tossed, kelp-forested upper layers of consumer sweat & spend.
Just what is this 'novel' approach that will increase demand for goods, and so increase production and supply and increase profits and decrease taxes and at the same time provide the wherewithal to kick-start the initial, and sustain the ongoing, demand?
The fact is there is nothing 'novel' about your approach. You 1st:
-Insist upon the privatisation of profit and the publicisation of loss.
2nd
-Insist upon having your own issues dealt with ahead of all others.
3rd
-Insist that once the warm glow of contentment is yours, all may bask.
My novel approach, 1st
-Insist that all rods in the UK pond land their catch on these shores.
2nd
-Insist that we are a Nation before we are an economy.
3rd
-Insist that the greater-good comes before personal-paradise. - It only seems fair that the bloated, gilt edged pensioned public sector should take massive cuts. After all they were single handedly responsible for the greatest economic catastrophe that the world has seen. Don't believe the old lies that they put about that it was all the result of greed within the private financial sector; they're just cheap jibes put about to throw people off the scent. Those hand-wringers are the cause and don't let us forget that!

The economic problems do stem from excessive public spending regardless of what you prefer to think. Building a deficit in the economic growth phase was simply mad. Brown ignored the bit of Keyenes he did not like - typical socialist.
The only solution to excessive spending is to cut it back - there is not other way to do it.
What should be cut is a fair debate to have not whether to cut.
A graph is to statistical significance as an Iraq Dossier is to cogent debate, the ultra-sexy alternative to reason.
I'm sure there is a far stronger direct correlation between Desperation and Draughtsmanship.
