We see Labour politicians and their journalist fellow travellers hurl torrent of abuse at him but in doing so they merely show up their own shallowness and paucity of argument. These are the people who are not only guilty of creating so much poverty in this country but also locking people into that poverty. To them benefits are the only solution but benefits are just as much the problem. Only in that strange world occupied by 'the left' can a difference in £1 a year income determine whether they class a child as living in poverty or not. These smug self-rightous asses know nothing about real poverty. To them it is an academic exercise, they want to salve their consciences as they pop off to their Welsh or Cornish holiday homes for the weekend.
What does multi-millionairess Polly Toynbee know about poverty? Nothing at all.
Iain Duncan Smith though is another story. He is made of sterner stuff and has lived in real poverty himself, with no money to pay for rent and depending on his girlfriend to eat.
That is why he feels so strongly about the issue. That is why he is making the changes he is to the benefits system. He knows how tough it really can be and, unlike so many of his critics pulled himself up by his bootstraps and made something of himself. In doing that he represents all that the left hate. His changes are all about ending this cycle of poverty and creating opportunities so people are no longer locked into the benefit system.
Labour politicians time after time make the same mistakes, driving the economy into crisis with their spend, spend, spend attitudes. In doing this they create poverty and destroy jobs and opportunity. Never have they left office with less people out of work than when they started. The Labour Party are the worse enemy of the poor and their only solution is yet more of what created the mess in the first place. They are unfit for office, any office and this welfare debate highlights their incompetence and plain foolishness.

Perhaps Ms. Toynbee is but a creature of habit, with much then in common with Iain (and Duncan). He who yet lives in a property of his wife's family estate. For sure, the culture of dependence is hard thing to shake, and he should know.
Yes, gone are the days when a man and his ability to work were assets, worthy of care and sustenance. This end of slavery too would bring a lightness to the heart when read of in the weighty tomes of history that was not there on the ground, at the time. It is a stark choice indeed:to work hard and long and to know that your next meal was ever on the stove and your hut stood nearby, but be a slave, or to taste freedom and work hard and long for less than could sustain you. Oh the sweet smell of the freedom to starve and to freeze.

Tom a 5p cut in the top rate of tax raises more revenue for HMRC but a 10p cut or a simple flat tax with the same rate for everyone would raise even more tax revenue. You of course choose to always ignore this. But then the real world is something apart from your rather other worldly musings.

To aver (and it is only ever 'aver', not explain) that favouring those already favoured is the way to bring prosperity to all is as vapid as stating that the weighing and reweighing of the pig shall alone fatten it up.
We could reduce to zero the accounts of the British that bank in the BVI, pay off our national debt and thus vastly reduce the deficit, at one stroke.
