Taking a lead in dog microchipping

Thursday, 28 January 2016
Dover District Council has welcomed the success of a series of events between July 2015 and January 2016 where more than 180 dogs were microchipped for free - this is ahead of new laws that mean all dogs must be microchipped from 6 April 2016.

DDC has been providing free dog microchipping at events to help support local communities. The events offered people the chance to get their pets microchipped, to find out about the new rules, and to meet the dog warden team. The team was able to microchip 183 dogs at locations across the district.

Cllr Trevor Bartlett, DDC Cabinet Member for Property Management and Public Protection said: "We were delighted to offer this free service to help people ahead of the introduction of the new legislation. Microchipping is a great idea, it helps trace the owners of missing dogs, and is an important part of responsible dog ownership."
