Bin it to win it! Councils trial new incentive scheme

Tuesday, 3 February 2015
Dover District Council is working in partnership with Dover Town Council to trial an incentive scheme that rewards people for disposing of litter responsibly and clearing up after their dogs. The 'Pick It, Bin It, Win It' campaign was launched in the Dover Town area yesterday, with the chance for people to win £25 worth of shopping vouchers.

Under the scheme, people who are seen disposing of litter responsibly, or picking up after their pets can be rewarded with a special post card, which allows that person to enter a monthly prize draw, and gives them the chance to win a £25 'Love to Shop' voucher.

The cards are being issued by officers of Dover District Council's Environmental Crime Team, as well as Police Community Support Officers, Kent County Council Community Wardens, and the DDC Parking Services Team.

The scheme is a multi-agency partnership, as part of on-going work to maintain a welcoming town centre. Dover Town Council is funding the cost of the vouchers for the campaign, which is set to run for the next year.

Cllr Nicholas Kenton, DDC Cabinet Member for Environment said: "We are delighted to launch this new campaign. DDC continues to work with all our partners to encourage people to pick up after their pets, and to put rubbish in the bin. As well as continuing our robust approach to enforcement, we also want to reward positive behaviour and support a range of education initiatives. We are delighted to work with partners on this scheme, and we thank the Town Council for funding the vouchers."

The Town Mayor of Dover, Cllr Pam Brivio said: "We are pleased to fund this initiative which gives local residents an opportunity to be proactive in improving the streets of the town."
