Officers to target anti-social behaviour this Halloween

Wednesday, 29 October 2014
Police officers and PCSOs in Dover will be targeting anti-social behaviour as part of a clampdown on incidents reported around Halloween.

High-visibility patrols will be out on Friday 31 October, visiting venues and locations across the Dover district where anti-social behaviour could occur, to ensure that Halloween celebrations are carried out sensibly.

Officers are aiming to deter and reduce any problems such as criminal damage or violence that can sometimes be linked to trick-or-treating.

Work has also been carried out in the run-up to Halloween, officers from the Dover community safety unit have been providing advice to shops against selling flour and eggs to young people if they suspect the purchases are for anti-social purposes.

Dover Sergeant Paul Gammon said: "We know this time of year can cause concern for the more vulnerable members of our community and we are dedicated to providing high visibility and reassurance across the district.

"Police have recently been given new Powers under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014 to disperse persons committing or likely to commit anti-social behaviour from an area up to 48 hours. This power can and will be used if required.

"We want people to enjoy themselves but it needs to be done safely and responsibly."
