Motorists given reminders about road safety

Tuesday, 25 November 2014
A series of road safety checks took place in Dover District on Friday (21 November 2014) as part of Road Safety Week.

Motorists who were driving too fast, using mobile phones whilst driving, or failing to wear seatbelts were stopped by Police and informed of the law. Drivers were also given road safety advice from Kent Fire & Rescue Services. The road safety initiative was led by Dover District Community Safety Partnership and supported by KCC Community Wardens. In addition, Civil Enforcement Officers issued a number of Penalty Charge Notices for Breach of Parking Regulations outside River Primary School.

During the day, 13 motorists were stopped for excess speed, 1 for using a mobile phone whilst driving, and 10 for offences of not wearing a seatbelt.

Whilst most motorists drive safely, courteously and abide by the law, those who break the law not only put others and themselves at risk but are liable to be fined and receive points on their licence.

Heidi Sutcliffe from the Dover District Community Safety Partnership said: "The partnership responds to residents' concerns, and this is one of many initiatives carried out around road safety in the district."

Police Sergeant Ian Belsey from Kent Police said: "It is important for us to remind road users of the law and this initiative to educate people is part of a series of initiatives that we support and will be involved in, which will include enforcement days in the near future."
