Woman sentenced following assault outside Dover store

A woman has been sent to prison for 120 days after she assaulted a security guard outside the Morrison's store in Bridge Street, Dover.

Ashleigh Lanni, 20, of Trinity Place in Deal had denied the assault in October last year but was found guilty by magistrates in Folkestone.

The court heard that she had hit, bitten and scratched the member of security staff who had stopped her just outside the store, suspecting she had stolen a bottle of alcohol.

Lanni, who admitted the theft of alcohol, had been on a conditional discharge for an assault in Dover in April last year.

PC Richard Cordery said: "This behaviour was completely unacceptable. Lanni was kicking and screaming in front of members of the public trying to go about their day and get their shopping.

"I am pleased that the court has imposed a sentence as this reflects the seriousness of the assault that she carried out on a man who was just doing his job."

Lauren McGarry, also 20, of Edred Road, Dover, who was with Lanni in the store, was given a 24 month conditional discharge after she admitted using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour causing harassment alarm or distress to those nearby.
