The thought has crossed my mind Terry. If we organised a demo, could you provide some portable sound equipment?

They would still have to await listed buildings approval before they could make a start I assume.

That is the subject of the planning application against which I have lodged the above application Reg.

Thinking of that lovely building Brook House and its sudden demolition it is never safe to assume anything where DDC are concerned.

With so many stumbling blocks in the way DHB may be in a difficult position with their chosen contractor who is expecting to start in a few weeks.

A mere technicality Howard it was the council of that period.

We (DPPTL) do not waste our benefactors' money on PR consultants as DHB do. However we have sufficient resources to mount a legal challenge should the vandalism of the pier look as if it will happen. As for problems between DHB and their contractors, that's not our problem. Or the town's.

DHB should go and see what has been achieved at the renovation of Folkestone Harbour (called Harbour Arm) still a,work in progress, but like our pier, great views, will really put Folkestone on the map, has cafes, entertainment and next weekend a festival and even has rickshaws!

Obviously DHB has managed to convince DDC that the heritage assets will be replaced and the pier re-opened following the works. However there is no detail on this aspect of the application and we believe therefore that the granting of consent by the planning committee to the proposal would create a serious risk of the permanent loss of this historic structure which is dear to thousands of Dovorians. DDC may be convinced but DPPTL is not and neither, we suspect, are the community. I shall not go into the detail of how the pier is held in such esteem by the community as that is obvious from the many comments already received from citizens on DDC's planning website and by the outpourings of anger in the press and on social media. However, given the town's feeling and its distrust of the applicant, the Planning Committee should use their power to delay this consent until the additional detail is provided, to demand binding undertakings from DHB as to the timescale for re-opening the pier and reinstating its furniture, and to stop the application in its tracks if such detail and undertakings are not forthcoming.
This rather gives the impression that the intention is to re-open the pier. Correct me if I am wrong, but this does not appear to be the case. The pier will be closed and the section by the hoverport lowered to the same level. Thereupon the new cargo terminal will be constructed. This will cut off the end of the pier. On completion of works, the area that will be open to the public will be the marina curve. I am given to understand that the new pier protecting the entrance to the marina will not be open to the public, although I may be wrong and they may change their minds anyway given the present furore.
It is also contemplated that cruise ships may berth on the cargo berths to enable the passengers to wander ashore via the marina curve to give them a more pleasant walk than the hike from the Admiralty Pier.

I was also drawing on Nigel Bodell's statement published in the Express 2 weeks ago. But my position is that before DHB are allowed to touch the heritage assets the full details must be set in stone. Note also that they are stalling appointment of community directors until all these changes are under way.

Maybe the Clocktower should be added to the list.
Just checked and there have been no comments added to the planning application since Thursday.

They are only added after the DHB staff have vetted them Howard. Many people use inappropriate language when commenting and that has to be dealt with.

I appreciate that Peter but until last Thursday all the previous days posts were up and running by mid morning after vetting.

I'm confused by the dates - I'd heard the last date for comments was last Friday but the website now says 'Expiry Date 20th August'.
There is usually a specific last date for comments, can anyone clarify as I know someone who tried to comment over the weekend but couldn't, though that isn't unusual as the website does strange things out of hours.

I was told by DDC that it was the 7th but new ones are being added today so I am assuming that the expiry date is the cut off.
DHB's chosen contractors were on the pier this morning doing a survey, they could have a surprise coming.

I doubt it Howard, what DHB wants it usually gets even if watered down very slightly.
