brian
they got an increased quota the last time they played silly beggars, and will, no doubt, get another one.
it is supposed to be the eu that hands out quotas, at least that is what our treacherous politicians tell our fisherpeople.
what would happen in france if outside agencies brought in foreign cheap labour for construction projects?
doesn't take much thought, does it?

Brian I wish you would take the trouble to look into the facts before you come on here. Whinging and whining is in fact what you do.
If you took time to read up on the subject, and I don't mean The Sun, you would see that the French fishermen do in fact have a genuine grievance. It's not a case of the French government giving in as you call it, it's a case of these hardworking men letting their government know that it is impossible for them to carry on making a living out of fishing with the current restrictions. They are family men doing their best to do their job but they have to deal with running costs, breakdowns, bad weather and a host of other things. Unless the quotas are increased they stand no chance.
I would say it's you who needs to stop sniping and get your facts right and I'm sure our local fishermen will not thank you for your sarcasm either.

Brian,
As I already said, I've read up on the facts already but you obviously want to stick to your ill informed views. That's ok - if you want to live in la la land who am I to argue. I notice that most of your postings are condemning other people with no excuse except your own blinkered views, Barry is another of your targets. Judge not lest ye be judged ...............
This will be my last comment on this thread so I'll let you have the last word - which no doubt you will

Brian thats not good PR its not PR at all. Sure it is free publicity but its publicity of the wrong kind...Dover is already on the map and people being forced into staying here sleeping in their cars and on floors and so on doesnt amount to good PR. Quite the opposite...
"remember that awful time we spent in Dover during the strike" would be their mental response in the future.
As we know the fishing industry is being devastated everywhere by low quotas, here in the UK too...its not an easy problem to fix as if the sea stocks are down and in need of recovery then whats to be done. I think we would all like to see a thriving fishing industry but how to go about it is the problem. At least now the French Government are talking to these guys and maybe some permanent fix can be put in place. But all governments in France are afraid to tackle the problem head on for fear of riots in the streets of Paris.

paulb, all pr is good pr evan if its bad,it brings dover to the forefront evan being mentiond on natinol news possably globel.most people remember where they were at certain times maybe they will come back in happier times, certanly the 6 or so charaty walkers who were interviewd on telly last night were quite happy and thought that dover was a nice place.as for fishing quotas are sorted out in favor of all fisherman.

sorry brian, dover will be a bad memory to the people that have suffered in this dispute.
the french government have already promised to fill the pockets of the strikers today, hence the end of the blockade.
this also means that it will happen again very soon.

Eastern Docks packed with ferries during the French fishermen's blockade of the French ports. Maersk Delft had just sailed or it would have been more or less a full house.

It says at the bottom of this article
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-27126183
that
Eurotunnel also announced an expansion plan which it hopes could see the end of Operation Stack.
The operation involves parking lorries on the M20 coast-bound when the Channel Tunnel, English Channel or Dover port are shut to traffic.
The firm is doubling the number of lorries it will be able to handle on site to about 600, reducing the need to park lorries on the motorway during disruption.
Mr Alexander said building additional lanes would help ease the pressure on the local transport network when things go wrong.Brian Dixon- Location: Dover
