brighton is a city with a large population and catchment area, we can't really compare with dover.

This is a NHS funded development and is the result of a need to update some very old buildings to serve the modern day needs of the population. There has been a lot of effort over many years by all party representatives to achieve this, although a new build with better parking and access was an option preferred by many.
Nevertheless a very welcome outcome.

Sounds good if it happens, and I'll bet it'll still be completed before the St James development. Doesn't give us the a & e that we need though.

We were told all last year by Charlie and others that the new facility would be up and running this spring, all gone very quiet on this now.

I think you'll find the Spring is still about right Brian. Stuart Bain, Chief Executive is about to retire same time. This newly announced element of the project follows a meeting of all funding parties committing to take the scheme forward.
The scheme details ,site arrangement etc. are now to be moved forward. Schemes like this are essential to deal with pressures on the acute hospitals.

Paul, is this the possible establishment in Dover that you talked about the other day when I mentioned convalescence homes.

It is indeed Jan but more elements of intensive rehabilitation & extra care. It should help empty some of those acute beds , bringing people back home. Maybe other proposals could surface to back up this independent of these initiatives,

Maybe there is still hope for A&E as Canterbury Ashford and Margate hopelessly overrun.... Hope they look into it again its never too late :)

I think Mrs List has hit a good point there, the more services we have there could mean a new A&E ,again if I was standing again for re-election I would make that one of my main points to fight along.

Heike, Vic , -the best thing we can hope for is we keep A & E at QEQM &WHH with Canterbury still surviving in its current downgraded form. That would be an achievement on current form.

I thought all A & E departments were the same Paul, how is the one at K & C downgraded?

Not every genuine emergency needs high-tec medical care when they visit A&E so I agree with Heike.
As an example a simple broken bone, fracture or sprain does not require the same expertise or equipment as a stroke or heart attack so surely there should be no reason we could not have a scaled down A&E at Dover.

K&C can handle heart and stroke acute cases but not accident victims as there is no trauma centre there any more.

I think Canterbury is now called an Emergency Care Centre, not A&E.
Through professional contacts I know staff who have left there because that meant they couldn't get the experience they needed for career progression.
