With that lot added to what is already at Whitfield there is less reason for people to come into town. No problem with KFC as they have spent a lot of money this summer refurbishing their Market Square outlet, so like McDonald's they are just adding one in Whitfield.

The only real advantage is it might stop some going to other towns as well as providing jobs, but not much help to the shops in Dover Town.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

It wont provide much in the way of real jobs. As 90% of jobs in retail will be part-time only the top tier will be full time as in managers etc. The town centre is just on a slippery slope of never being the centre for shops in dover any more, of which it hasn't been for a long time now.

Most retailers have a combination of full and part time staff. Part time opportunities suit many people who may have other commitments. A job is a job! The DTIZ scheme will provide the larger, modern retail units that the town centre needs.

I had forgotten about the DTIZ, just had a look. It certainly has changed over the years as been waiting so long for it to happen. Although I can't agree with a job is a job. But can see it being just another out of town place so to speak with its parking and its seemingly self containment. The actual high street in Dover is just going to disappear into more charity shops and empty windows.

This might give light why all this is going on up there as you know 6000+ homes to be build up there most not all but most will be up for sale once they are sold then there will be lots of public to spend money up there. The parish of Whitfield will be gone and it will be a parish in name only like River. I only joined the council up there to try and stop that happing but as it is going head I am in my last weeks as a parish cllr .
