I can hardly believe this I am about to defend DDC.
Brian Sue has told you it is up to DTC to provide the play area not DDC.
It would be more appropriate to lobby the Town Council to pull their proverbial finger out and get a new and hopefully better play area started. Sadly I think you will have a long wait as that particular body are better known for the crawling speed they seem to adopt when deciding anything unless they want it themselves, toilets versus new car and jabots immediately springs to mind.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

this will turn into a tale of two councils and we know where that leads.
the district council closed the play areas at priory and maxton, now aycliffe.
sue is correct in that guston and capel parish councils provided their own but the only statutory obligation of the town council is the upkeep of allottments, so it is only if they feel like being nice that they will help on this one.

It was as e all know the DDC job to replace both of them not the town council.
They go on to say there was not a site found at Folkestone rd again that was wrong there were sites but the £200.000 was not used in the way it should have been
I say no more about that all history now.
The one at Aycliffe again same old story they are using there is room to put it and should have gone back where the old one was.
The good one at Capel was funded and that was done by a lot of hard work by a part-time D.D.C. OFFICER.
I do not know how or where she got it from.

Look funding is not the issue as I understand it, it is finding the appropriate location that is safe for children & I don't mean equipment safety!!

Not quite right Howard, local councils (i.e. parish and town) have six statutory duties, plus a general power of competence to do anything a normal person would do.
One of these duties is to consider the impact of their decisions on reducing crime and disorder in their area. So if it is likely that a play area will reduce anti-social behaviour from the targeted age group in that area then it should be considered a priority, but there needs to be evidence to back this up.
But as Paul says above, there are many factors to consider a play area, one of the main ones being that the area should be safe both in terms of the physical safety of the equipment available and the location being safe for unsupervised children, something we have been struggling with in Lydden for several years. DDC officers have provided us with a report on the safety of our available sites and continue to help in many other ways.

surely nowhere is safe for unsupervised children, when i go past play areas the adults normally outnumber the children.
the age range of the youngsters clambering around and over the equipment would suggest that parents wouldn't let them out of the house on their own.

Howard, have a good read of the document that Jan posted a link to above - LAPs, LEAPS and NEAPs.
Different requirements for different age ranges, the older they are the less likely they are to be supervised - just like I was from the age of 6 apart from my mates!

Just add to Ray's comments about standards. If standards as laid down by the expert body -(not DDC)are not complied with the sites become uninsurable. This is a dilemma every public body has to face.

Too true Paul, it's not as easy as Vic's view that you start by getting a wish list from a company, that's the end of the process.
Plenty of info here from
Fields in Trust about standards and fundraising.

What I have said has been done all over the UK in PARISHS and towns and I do know what I am talking about and the talk about a wish list is rubbish but I would not expect anything-more from yourself.
