#55, I see Howard has posted a photo above of CPAG (Connaught Park Appreciation Group) volunteers at the start of refurbishing about a dozen benches for use in Connaught Park. We had just sanded down the one above, the first of many, ready for painting. Just thought I would post some photos of the finished product
Seven of our benches completed & ready to take their place in the Park
Waiting in line to be carried out
In use!

Taken at Pimm's in the Park, Ta Dah!!!

joy was unconfined as locals celebrated the arrival of the two wave benches.
musicians were brought in for the unveiling.

Are the new wave benches designed to bring two people closer together or for one obese person to spread the load?

I'd like to agree with you but then we would both be wrong!!

Awful looking things that were certainly not designed for the disabled or elderly to use, with no arm rests or back if I sat on one I would need help to get up.

certainly don't look comfortable, look similar to the one in the "garden" next to morrison's.

Sure you do not mean the mud, twig and litter garden Howard, I walked past it on Saturday and realised how awful it now looks.

To sit on Jan.......where did you get that idea from? The undulated shape is purpose built for skateboard enthusiasts to enable them to use them as a ramp to give height to clear the litter bin!
The other one is a moneymaker for those who want to use it as a means to get enough lift to hit the strategically placed lamp post. The operators of the CCTV can then send the footage to 'You've Been Framed' to claim the £250.00.....so that they can be self financing.

Do nothing and nothing happens.

the "garden" has to be dug up and totally returfed with fencing on morrison's side taken down to make it inviting.
bob is correct over the possible use, town centre seating is intended primarily for the elderly and/or infirm, those two benches conjure up the opening credits to "the simpsons" with bart sailing over them.

Horrible looking benches but the design should ensure they are not used for laying on when things get too much, or indeed drunk too much ;)

Bob, you are correct of cause and I love that image you conjured up.
Howard, I agree about that pointless fencing, without it maybe the path could be made so there is room for two prams to pass each other without having to move right into Morrisons window space. A lot wider paving area would also make the so called garden look tidier, cleaner and more inviting

Are the convoluted seats the product of convoluted minds

These benches were provided by Dover Town Council, nothing to do with DDC.I thought today was April Fools Day.We will all have to go on a diet.

Honestly,if contractors installed anything in your garden like the benches were installed you wouldn't be willing to pay them, would you?
An abysmal job. They should have been concreted in lower and the attractive dark grey paving bricks reinstated.
I am shocked at the standard of the work and truly hope that something will be done about it.

WE ARE OVER £600.000 PERYEAR FOR A TOWN COUNCIL THAT COMES UP WITH SEATS LIKE THAT.
As I said it is time that this town council came to a end they do not add much to the town and when they do they come up with things like the above .Very sad that the town has come down to this kind of happing..
