just had a note pushed through my letter box from balfour beatty mott macdonald, stateing traffic assessment scheme..here it is in full.
on behalf of the highways agency we are working with the port of dover.,kcc, ddc and kent police to achieve better traffic flows on the A20.
in order to collect data to allow environmental assessments of options,we will be carrying out work to install new traffic lights on the A20 near western hueghts roundabout, doverkant.to reviewarrival rates at the town and port, and reduce risks of queuing traffic from becoming gridlocked around dover town, and minimise disruption across the network.these changes will come into effect by the 8th of april.
enabling works consisting of tempory traffic management will be installed overnight between Thursday the 26th of march and Wednesday 8th of april.temporary signage, anpr cameras, average speed cameras and mobile cctv will be installed between rounhill tunnel and eastern docks.and the installation of a tempory traffic island and traffic signals approaching western hieghts roundabout,
vehicle types will be filterd on approach to the port, with long and heavy vehicles directed to use the left hand lane, leaving the right hand lane for cars, coaches, light vehicles and local traffic.at times, when the port is busy the traffic signals will hold dock bound hgvs in lane 1 until the road is clear.the system will be installed by the highways agency, with the port of dover monitoring the traffic lights to control the flow of traffic.vehicle flows, air quality monitoring and journey times will be monitored to support the design of a longer term soltion.
there will be a full closure in place on the eastbound carriageway, between coutwood interchange and western hieghts roundabout.with a lane closure on the westbound carriageway.when thefull closure is in place, rosd users will follow a fully signed diversion route vua the B2011,A256 and the A20.there will be a 40 mph speed limit in placebetween Folkestone and dover which will be enforced by speed cameras to help safe operation.
there will also be a requirement to close the eastbound carriageway of the A20 between roundhill tunnel and western hieghts roundabout, road users will fowlow a fully signed route via the A260/Canterbury road,A2011,A256 and theA20.during this time there will be a two lane closure in place on the westbound carriageway.
all diversions will be clearly and fully signed.these diversionsare suitable to carry all vehicles and have been agreed with the police and all local authorities.
we would advise you to follow rhe divesions signs and not any satellite navigation systems as they not be aware of other roadworks or obstacles to your journey.it is advisable that you plan your journey and allow extra time.these works are a result of partnership working and the results will be used to review options to achieve a better flow of traffic into the port.enhanced protection from congestion for communities in and around dover and safeguard protected and historic enviroments.
