Secondary Schools in Kent: Latest League Tables.

Reproduced below are the Secondary School League tables for Kent. As you can see, and it is really worth highlighting everytime, the Dover Grammar School for Girls has achieved astonishing results yet again, and is at the top, or very near the top, of all league tables for KENT. The School really is a shiney beacon of intellectual light, so we here in Dover should be justifiably proud of it. I have reproduced the table below, or one of the tables anyway, but my very own particular beacon of shiney light is not working too well this morning as the tables didnt reproduce well, and sadly are a trifle garbled. However I have highlighted the Dover Schools in the table in an effort to make it all that bit clearer.If I have failed to highlight a Dover school please let me know.
To improve things clarity wise, you can simply just check the figure at the end of each line.

The next best performing local schools along the line after Dover Grammar School for Girls, are the Duke of Yorks Royal Military School and the Dover Grammar School for Boys. Both a third of the way down the table or so. Some of the schools in Dover did not fare too well but I leave the viewer to judge performances for themselves.

- Thanks for putting up those results PaulB, I'm particularly proud as both my kids go to the grammar and I must say that I am pleased for them. Well Done to all the Dover schools as all kids are under a lot of pressure these days.
- Thanks Betty but as you can see this feature has attracted little or no interest and no comment from anyone in Dover. This is a pity as the DGGS is one of Dover's few success stories. I dont know, perhaps it takes a lowly foreigner like me to appreciate it, as the school seems mightily taken for granted by the locals ( I havent used the ' lowly foreigner' one in a while!).
At a time when people are moving districts and even towns to be in a school catchment area and indeed at a time when people are becoming Catholics ( this was on the BBC yesterday) just to be eligible to top schools, it all seems underwhelming.
But there we are.......what can one do. - I haven't placed a comment since the change of format for the Dover Forum, but it's been a while and the weather is poor.
These figures are mildly interesting but only conclusively demonstrate the crazy situation parents are faced with. Having many friends desparately trying to prepare their children for the Kent Test and 'Grammar Test' in the past weeks, this is a subject I have talked about a lot recently.
It is undeniable that the Girls Grammar continue to exemplify academic exellence, it is an excellent school, well done. The trend is clear from the data presented that Grammar schools perform better. But what on earth does this prove? It is obvious that if you screen your pupils for academic ability then they will perform well. It's also a fairly well accepted that girls perform better than boys.
On top of this, 'skimming' off the cream of able students (by double selection) in an area with a relatively poor demographic will obviously have a detrimental effect on other schools in the locality. For this reason I find the production of such information in this 'Now Thats What I call Education/Greatest Hits of Schools' terribly confusing for parents. Well done to all of our young people and parents, but all sorts of opinions can drawn from this sort of data that doesn't always really mean a great deal. e.g. by comparing school by the Value Added (CVA) the list presents different overall story. - Hey PaulB, dont be so rash lol! saturdays can be so busy that one sometimes cant simply get around to going online. Have just seen this great news about our Dover Schools. Wayhey! Well Done to DGGS what an achievement yet again. Betty, my two daughters Briony and Saskia go to the grammar so I am also proud for them and a Big Congrats to All Dover School Students.
- DGSG has certainly done extremely well, and it is something that they have been very consistant with over the last few years.
It shows clearly that the teaching methods work. I know the girls themselves are already bright youngsters, but it has to be nurtured, and this is very evident from the results.
Sadly some schools would rather concentrate on boosting the head teachers ego. Perhaps in some cases the head teachers would do well to concentrate their efforts on making one school VERY good as opposed to taking on several.
