News Release 2 - Abba Night/And the storm rages on...

14 January 2008

ABBA Night update.

It looks like the Abba Night sales at Crabble Corn Mill are going very well, but there is still room for you. You may remember below we asked ColetteB to see if she could rally up a few enthusiasts for this good cause, because as you all know by now the Corn Mill is struggling financially. The last time I spoke to her, Colette had managed to rally up 19 or 20 people, and we are all going together in harmony saturday night. Remember there is still room for YOU. All welcome.

ColetteB said " If it hadnt been for the Burns Night Celebrations I would have had about 30 people!" So a very well done to ColetteB.

This gives me a good excuse to use the nice picture on the left. It was taken onboard the Norwegian Gem at the summer launch party of that wonderful ship. It shows Colette Boland with the Leader of the Council himself, Paul Watkins, having a quiet drink and a chat.

See you all saturday night at Crabble Corn Mill. Yours truly wont be fetching out his platform boots and his lurex and no, not even his eye liner ! But despite these major disappointments, I am sure all will have a great time upthere at The Mill, and as I say its all for a good cause. Watch for pictures to follow on here in due course.

Well I hope I didnt scare too many of you with the Pink Floyd scream, but it's just to attract a modicum of attention to the planned Abba and Seventies Night at Crabble Corn Mill at the end of the month...yes saturday night 26 Jan. This should be good for a few laughs and we can all do with a few laughs in this deeply deep midwinter, and at only £6.50 it includes food as well. Looovely. I enjoy a nibble or two myself, as has been known, so will be heading along to this all being well. I will see if ColetteB can organise a group and we can take a few pictures for a happy spread.

Ant Reid, The General Manager of Crabble Corn Mill said "At the moment we are having a very rough time financialy due to a very poor summer last year. We would appreciate it if you can get as many people to buy tickets and come along to this event. Hope to see you and all the Boland clan soon."

Many of you will see the frontpage story in todays Dover Express( Jan 17) about the Mills financial plight.

So there you have it. There are two reasons for going. Firstly, to have a great night out, and secondly, by coming along you will help preserve the famous Mill as an asset for the people of Dover, and as a great tourist destination for our visitors. Dover needs attractions like the Mill in order to attract free spending visitors into our community.

I will have more information on where to get tickets shortly. Ant from the Mill has just added a Comment, see below, with information on all ticket outlets. Hit end key on your keyboard.

Ah! a word about the poster. When only a tad younger than I am now, (ahem!) in the hedonistic seventies, I had this poster adorning my very own bedroom wall. An original it was. Sadly it's long lost now but it would have been a very collectible item today. I bought it at a huge Pink Floyd Concert at, I think it was, Earls Court. Ah those were the days. You only had to sit in your seats at Earls Court and you got high as a kite, complete with full twirling eyeballs, as the air was filled with illegal substances wafting through an eager auditorium on the humble ventilation system....aaah heady days !..and then the music.."Is there anybody out there!!!?".

Leave a message/comment below, they are always welcome, and particularly let us know if you would like to go. Go to the blue bar and click on ADD YOUR COMMENT.

This brave but foolish photographer is about to be engulfed by the raging torrent. Fortunately she was okay, but it could have been very very dangerous. The sea is unbelievably rough and treacherous today, indeed it is right now as I type..time 3.45pm date Jan 15. The pictures were taken in the last half hour.

This chap looking in the opposite direction is completely unaware he is about to be struck by an enormous and awesome wave, as it leaps silently over the sea defences behind him. The guy got very wet.

Jan 14: The Pride of Burgundy, the P&O Ferry, struggles homewards through horrendous conditions in the channel today. The ship took a fierce pounding. Nevertheless, through all this, the captain and crew got her in safely. However I wouldnt like to contemplate just how many passengers were seasick. Although we've been having rough weather for some time, the sea excelled itself in the roughness stakes today.
