General Page No 2 - Regatta/Fireworks/Ken Crosses the Floor!

30 July 2007

The Regatta in full swing. A huge seafront crowd, basking in glorious heat, lapped up all the fantastic stands and displays yesterday with more to come today Sunday. If you havent seen the action yet then it's a must, so get on down to Dover seafront today and enjoy this fantastic event.

Fantastic power boat racing made up part of the thrilling Dover Regatta spectacle. With blistering pace and glorious raw power, they raced in roaring revving colour around the harbour course in breathtaking style. Just great. What a sight!

The RNLI air sea rescue display is always very popular indeed and shows the terrific work these guys do in all weathers. Long may they continue both their excellent work and their fantastic displays. The pic on the right shows the DCAL senior princesses Saskia and Jessica looking very glamourous indeed for the big occasion.

This gorgeous picture of the gorgeous DCAL girls was sent in by Mandie Sehmbi, DCAL Chairman, earlier today and it really is a nice one. It shows the DCAL teamsters in front of the doverforum.com stall all looking lovely. Many thanks Mandie for the shot. Fantastic!

Not the sharpest shots ever but they nevertheless hopefully convey the excitement of the spectacular event held in Dover on Saturday night August 4. Prior to the fab firework display shown here, there was a Viking torchlit parade onto the beach, then from there, archers with longbows fired their flaming arrows with skill aplenty, and set alight a Viking Boat moored on the calm balmy water. See small picture of burning boat on the appropriate Forum thread. A good and happy crowd enjoyed the spectacle. Remember there are more fireworks next weekend on August 11, the Regatta Weekend.

Former and recent Labour Mayor, Ken Tranter, caused something of a local furore last week when he turned his back on all things socialist and joined the Conservative Party. This was quite a shock in some quarters, and has caused consternation of earth shattering shockwave proportions amongst the local political elite. However Ken is toughing it out and doing what he wants to do, and is now a "fully paid up member of the Conservatives!" See the Press Release below from the local Conservative Party which covers the gist of it. See also the thread STOP PRESS: Change of Colour on the Forum with more quotes from Ken writing as Blue Top and from other leading Conservatives.

***PRESS RELEASE***

Following the publication of his "Breakdown Britain" report, Iain Duncan
Smith today visited Dover at the invitation of Conservative Parliamentary
Candidate Charlie Elphicke. Mr Duncan Smith met with residents of Buckland
and St Radigunds, touring the Triangle Centre in St Radigunds and meeting
with representatives of Buckland Together. Mr Duncan Smith also met with
Ken Tranter, former Labour Mayor of Dover, and welcomed him to the
Conservative Party.

Charlie Elphicke said:

"Iain and I were extremely impressed with the Triangle Centre and its
inspirational leader Susan Wilson. It really is a fantastic community
resource and it was clear having met Susan and her team why it has been so
successful in engaging the community and bringing everyone together.

"We are delighted that Ken Tranter has joined the Conservative Party.
Everyone I meet tells me how Ken is known for being community-first in his
approach and a very good Mayor of Dover. I look forward to working with Ken
to speed Dover Renewal, putting the interests of the whole Dover community
first.
