I believe the Dover hospital was housed in this building during the war. I was a patient there, aged 3, in 1943. Then later I attended primary school in another building in Waldershare Park.

The family, the Earls of Guildford, were living there in the forties. Our school was closed for the day of Lady Guildford's funeral, about 1947. The funeral was held in Waldershare church, Vic.

According to the DDC planning website the original conversion into flats and holiday lets must have been approved prior to 1996 with loads more recent applications for extensions to individual parts of the property.

I just logged in to rightmove.co.uk, typed in Waldershare. There are several apartments for sale, one only £185k (hardly small change!) I enjoyed a virtual wander round.

The above image of Waldershare mansion dates from before 1913. In September of that year it was destroyed by fire and the rebuilt mansion has a different roofline.

My brother and I went to school here during the war, It must have catered for other areas, as we lived in Whitfield at that time. We thought the school was so big, went a few years ago and its just a small gatehouse.

The old school building is behind the trees on the other side of the avenue from the small gatehouse. My Uncle went to school there and when I was 10 or 11 (long after the school had closed) I used to explore the abandoned building. It has since been converted into a very substantial family home.
