The promise of 0.7% of GNI (around 942 million a month) was made decades ago and successive UK governments have renewed the promise without delivering. In 2002 the last administration laid out a path to full delivery of the promise with a renewed focus underpinned in legislation to spend the money only on projects that would directly alleviate poverty and starvation in developing nations. How well the legislation has been implemented in the field is debatable, but the UK has just become the only nation that made the promise to actually deliver on it.

By electing administration after administration in the UK over at least 3 decades that supported the promise that was given, it could be argued that we, the British People at large, are full party to the promise that was made on our behalf all those years ago.
