    Desperately seeking suzerainty. Again.

But as a general point, surely there should be a residence qualification for anyone seeking elected office so as to prevent parties parachuting in 'personalities' and various Farage-like fly-by-nights more self-importantly interested in their own careers than in those people they purport to represent.

Yes, that would be one way to stop him, WGS. But if that “residence qualification” is not already legally in place then I’m sure that there might be such an attempt to rush it through in order, as you say, to stop those more interested in their own careers etc. It would be the right thing to do eh?

Having said that, I would suggest that generally 95% of politicos of all parties would fit that bill, not just those involved with the nasty UKIP.

( But nice to see people getting worried, always a good sign! )
