AFAIK there is only one location in the district where there is a charging point on DDC land and that is at the leisure centre in Whitfield, and that is privately funded. However it is at least free to use. But unless you need to be in that part of Whitfield for 4 or 5 hours it’s as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. Leamington Spa on the other hand has at least eight chargers in public car parks in the town centre which are free to use as long as you pay for parking. Canterbury has several free charging points at each of the park and rides.

In fact Dover has a disgraceful shortage of charging points. The ones in St James’ are just about the most expensive in the country. At £2.50 per hour for a maximum 6.6kw supply (a minimum of 38p per unit vs home charging at about 15p), it’s no wonder they are hardly ever used.

Lidl has a fast (50kw) charger which was free until recently, now it’s 23p a unit.

In France, most Auchan hypermarkets have FOC 50kw chargers.

It’s about time DDC bucked up their ideas. Just buying a couple of electric vans for the parking team doesn’t go nearly far enough imo.
