    Coalition - a temporary alliance for combined action, especially of political parties forming a government.

    There is a huge difference between a coalition such as that between the 'allied powers' (which included Russia in WW2), where there is common purpose and objective; and political coalitions where groups which hate each other are willing to get into bed together to keep out of power a group they dislike even more.

    It's a bit like the difference between Holy Matrimony and a Forced Marriage.
