I'm sure everyone knows my view on these moves by the Labour Party.
Over the years Labour has imposed candidates in Dover and this puts those wanting to vote for an alternative to this Govt in a difficult position.
Many women in the past in the local labour party have opposed moves to impose candidates
Most women and all members recognise that by selecting the best person for the job is far better than imposing someone, that maybe no one supports, or have the ability in that role.
Obviously there is a need to encourage everyone to take an active part, but if the labour are having to impose candidates because they feel some sections won't entertain sections such as women, them maybe the party needs to look at better ways of getting people involved.
Whenever parties impose candidates, it divides the party and local community and gives people little choice at election time.

If my memory serves me correctly the late Reg Hansell was the first victim of a discriminatory short list, before I lived here so I stand to be corrected if wrong. Reg was a one time council leader and had a big personal vote in his ward, needless to say it was lost at the next election.
How many more years will it take for lessons to be learned?

The leader of the "For Britain" party is contesting Lewisham East and should be fun as the Labour candidate is standing on a stay in the EU ticket.

yes howard reg was one of 3seats but bill newman and I fought lab locally and they tried everything but in the end caved in
instead taking out the most respected KCC Cllr Reg
But at that time at the national level the labour party rightly attempted to get more women involved, sadly because they couldn't be convinced there present membership could support such amove.
But it was a guidline only
m eddy pushed for Dover 2 KCC seats to be the first
(bearing in mind at the time Dover held 5 seats, 2 in Dover 2 in Deal)
so a fair way would have been 1 dover 1 deal
but of course would he vote himself out of a job?
I attended a meeting of lab inn the evening where m eddy tried to convince lab members it was the nasty national party imposing
but I corrected him saying hang on mike I was at county with you this morning where you was pushing for Dover to be the first.
so wasn't national party at all.

Postscript - David Lewis has now been suspended by Labour over him saying he self-identified as a women. Meanwhile, Labour’s NEC has confirmed that ‘self-defined’ women are eligible for all-women shortlists & women’s officer posts.

Hardly presenting themselves as an alternative Government with stuff like that, it was obvious from the outset that self identification would cause the problem above.

Meanwhile in Lewisham. Having been outmanoeuvred over the choice of Mayoral candidate, Momentum members now look to errrrr abolish the post of Mayor!

From

Women currently make up 21% of Conservative MPs, compared to 45% for Labour, which has all-women shortlists for parliamentary candidates in some seats.
A proposal last year by the Commons Women and Equalities Committee to set a 45% female representation target for Parliament and local councils was rejected by the government, which said parties should take the lead.
Mr (Brandon) Lewis said achieving the "ambition" of 50% of candidates being female would not be easy, but pledged to "work tirelessly to make this a reality".
About 40% of Tory members are women, he said.
Funny how he can confidently state that "about 40%" of Tory members are women when Tory HQ doesn't even know how many members it has.
I'll watch this with interest as there won't be any all women shortlists, apparently.

You're confusing the meaning. Clearly 'About' is a geezer that fronts a monastery.
