    Interesting article here from the Economist. Just look at the table! There's kids from SOME immigrant groups, with English as a second language, running academic circles round whitey.

    Poverty makes things harder. Parents who work every available shift have little energy to chase after work-shy children. Some 68% of Lithuanian-speaking children and 63% of Polish-speakers live in poor areas.

    Even The Economist admits the impact of austerity, albeit in a backhanded reference.
