Received my Poll card earlier and it stated that I would be voting for:-
A Member of Parliament.
Councillors to Dover District Council.
Councillors to Dover PARISH council.
Looks like an opportunity for Vic.

1 MP
2 County Councillors (although we're not voting for them this time)
3 District Councillors
4 Town Councillors
That's 10 people who want your vote, 10 people who want to represent you. Bit of an overkill ?

Doesn't help when some represent us in 2 or even 3 of those levels at the same time to help their aspirations for the top one.

Our polling cards were delivered yesterday including one for my grandson who is now in Cambridge even though I had notified the powers that be he was no longer living here.
There are far to many councillors, a few who are very good and keep their ward and electorate informed what is going on while some sit on their backsides and keep everything to themselves while raking in their expenses.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

As I am a District Councillor Heike, I make decisions at Committees that will affect the District, Planning for example.
As a Ward Councillor, I work hard to improve the Maxton, Elmsvale and Priory ward in all aspects: rubbish, waste, waste-bins (I've just got a commitment from DDC for 6 new waste bins for the Folkestone Road and Elmsvale Road, so people can put their rubbish and bagged dog-poo in them) etc.
The bus-service is very important to local people so it important that I/we work to keep that too, in fact anything that people have a concern about, I will help them if I can. That's what being a Councillor is all about - isn't it ?
Your last comment about communities is also very important, as that is what helps social cohesion; that's why it's important families from where ever, support the Community Hub in Winchelsea Street (Wednesdays at 4.30pm).
