Piecemeal this gas been going on for years with high powered RIBS. There was at least one case of the punters being dropped off at the end of Broadstairs jetty which came to light when an Immigration Officer, having a drink in the Tartar Frigate, noticed a crowd of 'dusky' persons walking past.
There was also the case of some Dutch guys who used to drop off in Pegwell Bay. They were also involved in drugs importation and came to grief when they were caught by a falling tide and ended up stranded on the beach (nowadays it's a lot easier to leave the goods attached to pot(!) markers to be picked up by locals once the coast is clear!).
The Dutch guys went to court but managed to convince the twelve good men and true that their stranded RIB had absolutely nothing to do with the pile of contraband which happened to be dumped on the beach a couple of hundred yards way. Doh!
With their low-profile having litttle in the way of a radar signature and the ease of navigating by GPS, in good weather conditions, a run from a quiet beach in France to somewhere equally quiet down towards Dungeness can be very lucrative they say.
