  I visited Grantham a year or so and I could see what made Maggie what she was.
  
  Small minded, humourless and unsophisticated from a town which had fallen upon hard times in the arse end of nowhere just off the M1.
  
  You can understand just how much she must have resented and secretly been in awe of her Oxford contemporaries from wealthy families and public schools heading off skiing while she returned to Alderman Robert's house where he had risen to the lofty height of mayor which he actually thought important.
  
  No wonder she wanted to overturn the status quo, be they those who had not risen by merit or the two faced socialists intent on imposing their plans on the workers they despised as being too stupid to know what was good for them.
  
  Her attitude was always 'if I can get so far from such a lowly background so can you if you stop whining and expecting a free ride on someone else's efforts.'
  
  She was right.
