I would expect them to be in the general area I wouldn't expect them to know exact prices.
in this instance ed should have done his homework as the cost of living is the central plank in his appeal to the public.

Those of us who do the shopping would have a rough idea but Ed most probably has not done a weekly shop for years, his wife or some staff member will do it.

We don't do a 'weekly shop'. We use supermarkets only for what we can't get at small independent retailers. So we only darken their doors about once a fortnight and usually spend less than a tenner.
