The mind boggles. Amber Rudd, being a Hastings MP obviously likes a battle. It took decades for the families and victims of the Hillsborough disaster to secure justice. How long for the picketers at Orgreave?

Is it that big a deal? A load of miners went looking for a punch up with the police and some got a bit of a hiding. I' m sure the police officer were a bit heavy handed but no one was that badly hurt never mind killed.
There is a absolutely no comparison to Hillsborough.

Much as I dislike Ms Rudd I doubt that any Home Secretary would agree to an enquiry now. We have all seen film of shocking by the police and court cases against the pickets failed due to police persons telling porkies. In my view the last Labour government should have made it a priority soon after they took office in 1997.

Young Paul/Saul, you cite the miners as"looking for a punch up" are you basing that evidence on The Sun's report? The Truth eh?

I know it is important to those who were involved but I do not really like these enquiries that cost vast amounts of money (that could be spent on so many other important things) about events that happened so many years ago.

Jan I understand your comments, but we hopefully live in a democracy, and as Howard says if the police have told porkies then a lot of people suffered when they shouldn't have.
Only by being close to the situation do you get a real story, a relative of mine was sacked for taking one step over a painted white line, many others were sacked.
We cannot allow this kind of justice to continue.

Nice to hear from you again Keith.
I am all for democracy my problem with so many of these enquiries is the cost and many seem to achieve very little to justify that cost. As for porkies and/or exaggerations of the facts I suspect some on both sides are guilty to some degree.

Firstly thanks to Chris iv had a few problems logging in hopefully all ok now
Now on subject, Whilst I understand cost, if you put yourself in the position on a miners some of whom had never been involved in such disputes, sacked for little reason, often as is now being seen trumped up charges
what cost democracy and fairness?

I'm not sure what democracy has to do with it but life isn't always fair, and people have to get over it. The price of fairness is most certainly not 10's of millions of pounds. Especially for something that happened 30 years ago.
I'd rather the money be spent on employing more doctors and nurses.

Paul I think you may have different views if you were part of the mining community at the time and since

Fair comment. I just think an Inquiry wouldn't provide any real answers and as others say it would be a waste of money. I'd feel different if people were seriously injured or died.
