But there's now a good indication that even some of the most ideologically committed Johnsonites are beginning to realise the moon isn't made of green cheese.
They asked for their feast, now eat it, I say. Did anyone, knowing the history of this man, seriously believe that it wouldn't end up like this?
This is the key. At what point is there clear daylight between supporting Johnson and what's best for the Conservative party. We are fast approaching that point and Tuesday looks to be shaping up to be a very significant day.
