Why anyone would want to take on the role at the age of 74 is beyond me, our friend buttock touched on this in reference to the PM. The even more strange thing is that he bases his appeal on stopping our exit from the EU which caused the downfall of his predecessor.

Quite - he comes across as a sincere parliamentarian, and yet my respect has a taken a hit over his 'stay in the Single Market and (The) Customs Union' stance. Desirable to some it may well be, factually grounded it ain't. Plus the 'penny on income tax' strapline (did that originate with Charlie?) is getting a bit dated.

Would it be that nobody else really wanted the job, either that or he needed to up his money as his pension pot was not enough.

Obviously Cable's simply keeping the LibDem dinghy moored to the dock for a while following the fraying of Farron over his no-(gay)-sex-please-we're-Christian confusion. Even if he survives the Brexit storm without snapping, the LibDem inflatable is holed below the waterline and will likely sink without trace, with its crew climbing aboard the Tory prison hulk or the Labour clipper.
