The Labour NEC is far from a group of "Yes sirs". Both the current chair and deputy chair are from trades unions (there are 15 trade union representatives of the 39 strong NEC). There are also many reps for the Constituency Labour Party (CLP), i.e. the grassroots members. The three extra places were allocated to increase membership voice and therefore awarded to the CLPs. I voted all three of them and having rubbed shoulders and chewed the fat with Jon and Rachel, would do again (assuming they don't go all-power hungry and run off with a 25-year-old model).

The leader has been overwhelming elected the leader twice over because of his principles, vision and solutions. It is little wonder that the party's membership that has swollen to 600,000 members, because of that belief in the leader, would vote for people to help mandate him and not for anyone likely to back the 172 'Labour' MPs that went against the wishes of the membership.
