Apologies, but I am only able to post on the Politics Forum, not the general one.
Out for a walk early this afternoon we noticed that all the inscription wording on this memorial has been obliterated with black paint or something similar.
Not random graffiti. Someone making a political statement?
We reported this at the Dover Harbour Board Office who are following it up.

Doesn't sound like a schoolboy summer holiday prank to me, hopefully it can be cleaned up - a lovely memorial too.

Fret not. Cleverley and Spencer are re-lettering parts of the memorial. This is the initial part of the job.
The statue will also be cleaned.
Thanks for the vigilance Sue.

Thought I'd bump this up to remind everyone that the Service is at the Town Hall on Wednesday at 10.30 followed by wreath laying at the Memorial on the sea front at noon.
The new plaque on the Norwegian Memorial Garden will also be officially unveiled.
All are welcome.

Interesting fact. At the end of the proceedings yesterday I thanked everyone for coming, "especially our friends from Norway". I had thought that they were from the Norwegian Embassy. However, I was told by Don Hunter last night that they made a special visit by flying over from Oslo on Tuesday night and departing from Heathrow at 7 last night. I think we should be proud.
Incidentally, talking to Pam Brivio afterwards she mentioned that two Freemen were at the Town Hall service. I pointed out that there were in fact 3, Graham Tutthill was playing the keyboard in the minstrel's gallery!

Yes Terry we should be proud .The young Officer made a very good speech .It was a pity they could not have stayed longer.I did not see the press there apart from the photographer.. comments were made about not being invited.however there was plenty of room at the sea front where the Norwegian Garden is placed.
It was a beautiful day and we can be proud of our sea front.
I did not see many forum posters there.
Did see Mr lLiitle, deep in conversation with the Conservative agent.
