  I could understand councillors resigning over there being, say, no commitment to nationalise this country's utilities, or its public transport, or to remove nuclear weapons from its arsenal, but instead it seems their deal-breaker was words spoken or left unspoken about one or both parties in a foreign conflict. The word I'd use is 'odd'.
