 - After the taxpayers footing the bill up to now of over £500,000 set to rise as she is to appeal.
Fiona onasanya has been jailed for 3 months for lying a number of times to avoid a speeding fine.
The Peterborough MP can appeal and drag this one out but still get her £77,000 even in jail!

Was a speeding fine worth all this.
But unless this MP has incredible new evidence
we could end up footing an even bigger bill

if she wishes not to pay fines that's here choice but why should we pay the bill for the case?

 - She is a total disgrace and even though her party expelled her is still trousering her salary as an MP. I might be wrong but I think her sentence is not long enough for her to be chucked out of Parliament.

 - Huhne got eight months for a similar offence. And he pleaded guilty... More proof that black female defendants get treated more harshly by the racist, sexist courts... Oh, wait... - "The world is still a weird place, despite my efforts to make clear and perfect sense of it".

 - Given her position she should have been given a longer sentence than her brother. -
What I do not understand is why we are paying her legal fees, Keith's comment in #1, surely her MP's income is high enough for her not to qualify for Legal Aid.
 -
I might be wrong but I think she will be unable to continue as a solicitor with a criminal record.

Howard, from the link, "If Onasanya had been jailed for 12 months or more, parliamentary rules state she would have automatically lost her seat."

 - Read this earlier:

If Onasanya had been jailed for 12 months or more, parliamentary rules state she would have automatically lost her seat.
With a three month jail term however, she will instead face what's known as a Recall Petition.
Under new rules introduced in 2015, it means residents can force a by-election if the petition is signed by more than 10 per cent of the Peterborough electorate - around 7,000 people.
However, because Onasanya has lodged an application to appeal against her conviction, the petition can't be opened until that process is complete.
Once it is open, voters will have six weeks to sign it before a result is declared.
Of course, she could choose to resign her seat before that point - if she did a by-election would follow a few weeks later.
