This being the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther and his 95 theses I've been reading widely about the Reformation. The late Patrick Collinson wrote 'the importance of puritanism was that it was one half of a stressful relationship; the godly needing enemies on whom to unleash their righteous anger.'
With socialism as the true faith and Das Kapital as the sacred text, the left look for the 'other' to blame for life's viscitudes, just as the ignorant right will blame 'immigration' for the fact that they have neither the skills nor the work ethic for high paid employment.
