Not surprising really after 10 or more years of open door immigration, it's not surprising that people's attitude has hardened.
If people's view or perception of Government policy on immigration and what the immigrants receive is wrong, then that is the fault of (both) Governments.

To be called British it is imperative foreigners accept our customs and way of life, surely that is why they wanted to come here in the first place.
The open door policy for unskilled Europeans is a serious mistake that I am sure causes resentment in other EU countries as well as here. It must be remembered we are a small island and can not take every person who might want to come here wherever they might originate from.

Surely the reason they came here in the first place is because they're not happy where they were - presumably their home country ?
And what do they want to do when they get here ? Try as hard as they can to make it like the place they left.
Am I missing something ?

I agree with the above posts, I have met a few young asylum seekers that are grateful to be here, work hard, learn the language and integrate.
Sadly there are too many that abuse our hospitality and don't bother to learn our language or decide to fit in, the Folkestone road is a prime example locally and I mirrored across the country, breaking up social cohesion.
My last MP, one Michael Gapes was very good at getting visas for his Asian constituents to bring their extended families over and recently argued the case of a Hindu chap that couldn't speak a word of English. Gapes pointed out that as he would only be speaking with indian people he didn't need to learn the language.

Immigration says it all.... that one word sounds very raw. Its a never ending circle for many. But as mentioned before abused by european/ noneurpoean enviromental Immigrants. This is the keypoint. Where England is now with Immigration thats what Germany experienced 25 years ago and still going on and on. England is not the only Country who "suffer".
The problem is not the individual itself. The media knows what people are for and against it and using this as propaganda.
More stories appear from everywhere what Immigrants entitled to etc.... now People all get cross, angry, frustrated name it.
Understandably right so. But I am pretty sure it does not affect the system as people seem to believe.
I could go on and on about this .... not going to though.

If you are referring to the reunification of Germany Heidi, where West Germany opened up to the East, that's not quite the same as that was virtually two countries becoming one. The U.K. is in the process of becoming many different countries and we are in danger of losing our identity; Germany's identity is now even stronger.

The situation of Germany is more complex than that of reunification, particularly because around 5% of Germany's population are ethnic Turks and Germany also suffers/benefits from the same degree of intra-EU migration as Britain does.

Roger, no Iam not referring to that at all. ID of german citizen and tradition is long gone. I only can go back as far as I mentioned as before I would of been too young to acknowledge what goes on in the world. Nothing to do with the Reunion.
I do miss the true english tradition, but it slowly comes back through community and the churches. ( Iam not religious) which I take a positive note. People should go back to their true traditions. What I have heard from ollder Generations it must have been truly heartwarming despite of not having much in the purse at the time. I do love listening to these...
Should be an Eyeopener for the young Generation before it all gets lost.

There will be quite a furore over the amount we pay on this overseas aid.
The Libdems want it enshrined in law that we put 0.7% of gdp into overseas aid and David Cameron agrees. I really hope they don't do that and so do many other Conservatives.
Give money for natural disasters, but not waste this much money when there are millions of people here who need a bit exrtra in their pockets.
