Probably started by some moron whose favourite foods are chicken tikka masala and sweet & sour pork.

I don't sign petitions anymore and I certainly wouldn't sign anything daft and simplistic as that. Most of us agree that immigration is a bit out of control and our infrastructure is struggling to cope but to put a blanket ban on people coming in would leave us totally in the brown stuff.

It'll barely be given lip service and certainly cannot be acted on.

All the doctors/G.P's that came over from the Indian sub continent in the 70's are retiring or retired already. We desperately need to bring more from the same source. Similar thing with dentists, opticians and pharmacists.

What we need to do is to train our own.
57' 000 people applied for 20'000 UK nursing training places last year
No shortage of people wanting to be doctors or other medical staff

We do train plenty of our own but once qualified many go abroad for more money or sometimes better facilities or just for the experience of working in a different way.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

Not so many nowadays Jan, the doing away with student grants and bringing in tuition fees means that only those with well off parents can afford to train.
I would estimate that over the past 30 or so years 80% of doctors and dentists that have treated me have come from abroad.

They could give them free training provide they contracted to do 10 years NHS work or pay back the cash
