It might be down to the abolition of targets in A and E which meant that trusts where fined if a person waited over 4 hours regardless of the seriousness if thier condition .
This meant that the nonsensical situation could occur where a minor injury was treated whilst a major trauma was left as the minor complaint was nearer the "fine" timescale than the major injury . Now these targets are mainly eliminated some people are of course waiting longer .
Corridors where at one time renamed "wards" to avaoid the fines , but they where still corridors !
