It looks like Putin is moving his aspirations forward again:
He has helped flood Europe with displaced 'immigrants' causing chaos; the EU in answer to this have closed borders to give others, that might be a bigger threat to Europe, the chance to cross from Libya.
Fallen out big time with Turkey and NATO.
Cosied up to Greece, also a NATO member, who have historic scores to settle with Turkey which includes the Turkish occupation of part of the strategically placed island of Cyprus.
Now...if he could stir up 2 NATO members to fall out and threaten/take military action against one another, offer a military 'shield' to Greece in return for bases; give them cash to default on their debts, the European referendum would be the least of Europe's worries.
